A musician from early childhood, Duane is a versatile and multi-talented player. Although his main focus is "modern" jazz, Duane also plays traditional Dixieland and swing music. Early experiences influenced his style; (as a teenager he often sneaked out of the house to hear Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley and the like perform in San Francisco) and a later study of the roots of jazz led him to traditional Dixieland jazz. He has played with swing and show bands, traditional Dixieland bands, blues and modern jazz groups. His credits include backing performers Cab Calloway, Steve Allen and Carol Channing; performing as a member of The Jazz Salvation Company, Cell Block Seven Jazz Band, Billy Browning's Sonoma Jazz Orchestra, Dick Hafner's Big Swing Band and The Garth Steen Trio; touring the western United States with a New Age jazz band and playing with a Dixieland band in Britain. He has been a regular performer at the Sacramento Jazz Festival. He also has played on several commercially available recordings.

"If I were not a physicist,I would probably be a musician.
I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music.
I see my life in terms of music....I get most joy in life
out of music."
