More than a year before the infamous 9-11 terrorist
attacks on the World Trade Center, in an eerie, almost
prophetic coincidence, Duane created a series of ceramic
sculptures titled "Plane Cups" for an upcoming art show.
The tall vessels featured handles in the shape of partial
fuselages which seemed to penetrate the sides of the cups.
Fifteen months later planes pierced the sides of the
Twin Towers. Duane's pieces, conceived as art and born
from imagination, took on new meaning. Realizing that it
is often the nature of art to be irreverent or
controversial, he has decided to continue the series.
